Hello, Is Fluent postprocess can do a 3D plot with data on a surface? Please have a look to the link to understand : http://www.coolingzone.com/Guest/New...pt_crossec.gif

I want to make a similar graph like in the link for heatsink baseplate temperature but I don't find how to do. I have tried with Tecplot too but no results. It seems to be 2D only.

Anyone could help me? Thx a lot

Hi

I don't think fluent it the program that suit your demands!

I sugguest that you try with matlab or another code designed for this type of tasks

Ok for Mathlab I could obtain it. But how to say Fluent to put in a file, in 3 columns, the node at (X,Y) with the value (temperature on a plate for example) to create the 3D plot in Mathlab??

Thx for your answer Alex

Hi

I think I miss-understood your question

I thought that you have a data file x,y,T and you want to plot T as a function of x, and y.

Now I realize that you generate your data in fluent. Therefore, you can export the temperature on the x, y coordinates to a file.

One way to do it is write a UDF to exporte the cell centroids and the temperature on them.

I don't remember if is possible to write a file with the information on a plane but I guess you also can do it.

Just check the User's manual for writing a file

Best regards

Hi

I forgot to tell you that you can write a profile of whatever variable over any surface

Hi
I am in need of achieving this myself. Have you been able to export the XYZ plot from Fluent? If anyone has a link to any video/tutorial could you please share.
Thank you

Do you wish to export some fields from Fluent or do you want to use Fluent to plot a 3D plot? If it is former, then you can always extract data in ASCII using File > Export. But if it is latter, then Fluent is not what you need.

Hello Vinerm

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I figured that Fluent is not capable to do this.
If you have any other suggestion please share, I am not familiar with Matlab though.

What do you exactly want to do? If it is just that you have some data and you want to generate a 3D plot, then there are multiple tools, such as, Gnuplot, Matlab, Octave (essentially, Gnuplot), Tecplot, or even Fluent. But Fluent (or for that matter, even Matlab) is certainly not meant for that, of course. But if you do not know any of the tools above, I'd suggest going through some online material; Gnuplot is free and is comparatively easier to learn for specific tasks.
