Is rotation necessary?

Hi,

I want to simulate a rotary kiln. The kiln has fins on its walls of the rotary drum, to improve bed mixing. I am only interested in the gas flow and therefore there is no bed. The kiln rotates at 2rpm and the gas flows at up to 15m/s. I want to know if it would be ok to neglect the drum rotation and just concentrate on the steady gas flow or do you think the fins could have a significant effect on the flow field, and so rotation would be necessary?

Any advice????

Thanks in advance

John.
