Can I use any Low-Re k-e turbulence model in FLUEN
Does FLUENT support Low-Re version turbulence models, which don't use enhanced wall treatment or wall function for near-wall region?

The lo-re turb. models are hidden behind the GUI, you can activate them by typing de-mo-vi-turb-lo on the fluent window. (Dont forget to hit enter between the commands) Regards emre

Why does Fluent like to hide things like this. I cannot find any reference in the mannual to activate this model. Thank Emre for highlighting this.
How do the equations differ from the standard k-e model |

Thanks Emre. Do you know how to active inviscid model? I can find this model in Fluent manual. But I couldn't find how to active it. Thanks.

Thank you for your answer, emre.
I tried it, and I found de-mo-vi-turb was successful. but -lo- was not activated. invalid command [lo]! what's wrong? And I want to know whose low-Re model is in FLUENT Again I appreciate you. |
... where to find low-Re models in Fluent
You should have a look in your Fluent documentation. E.g. in version 6.1 you can find a list of available models in chapter: "Text Command List", section: "define-". Under "models/viscous/turbulence-expert/" you'll find a table including 0-Abid, 1-Lam-Bremhorst, 2-Launder-Sharma, 3-Yang-Shih, 4-Abe-Kondoh-Nagano, 5-Chang-Hsieh-Chen. If necessary, a short literature research on the web should give you further information about each model.

Re: Can I use any Low-Re k-e turbulence model in F
Hi, After you get the define/models/viscous> script, hit enter and see the available models. If you dont see turbulence-expert below, go to the pull down menus and activate one of the turb-models, eg k-e. Then hit enter once more and you should be able to see the other models.
Fluent hides these models since they dont want non-experts to use them. I personally avoid using them. For low Re turb. since the wall function approach is not reasonable, you could choose k-w models and activate transitional flow option in the viscous model panel, or maybe even SA model. You can find the wall treatment of these models in 10.3.6 and 10.5.1 sections of the version 6.0 manual. Best Regards emre |
