Hi all!

Is there somebody out there with experience of simulation of internal waves in stratified medium using Fluent?

Greetings

Varghese

Hi Varghese, Are you trying to get the Kelvin-Helmholtz waves? It is not easy to due using FLUENT because of the need for high interface grid densities and at least a second order time step. Unfortunately, although FLUENT is very robust and you have three mixing options, the most appropriate one is a modification of the VOF scheme. If your resources are limited, forget about it. I would suggest using another code such as FLOW-3D. Send me an email and let me know more about your problem and I will do my best to work with you if you would like.

Thanks, Allen Badeau Jr., Ph.D.

Thank you Mr. Badeau Jr. for your response. The problem I am working on is the turbulent mixing in a stratified medium due to inflow of hot fluids at a specified rate. An example for such situation is the heat fluids pumped out of thermal power stations into some water bodies.

The possible reasons for turbulent mixing was found to be internal wave breaking. I am not really interested to simulate the internal wave breaking in its full detail; rather its influence on the turbulent mixing.

By the way which country you are from? Just a curiosity for me.

Greetings Varghese

Thanks once again for the suggestion and please keep in contact.
