Outflow boundary condition in FLUENT
 

Hi.....

I am new to FLUENT. I am unable to understand what OTUFLOW boundary condition means in FLUENT 5/6 solver. The only thing I could get is that it can be used in case of pipes where flow is being divided and u have the convenience of specifying the mass flow ratio into each branch. For my case, I have a single pipe and so it would be 1.

But what are the conditions it uses, when we specify OTUFLOW as the boundary condition.

Does it assume fully developed flow condition at that end?

Hi ap,

Thank you for the information. But it still remains doubtful about what information it extrapolates from the interior. Does it mean that it takes the boundary condition to be that existing just prior to the end of our geometry??

I also came across another posting which said that outflow boundary conditions typically assume fully developed flow type conditions. This confused me. But I think I am getting a feel of it now.

outflow bc is needed to be set to initialize how much fluid will be flowed out of the system/geometry. and it is assumed to be fully developed.

can we have two mass flow inlet boundary conditions for a sinlge outflow......?? I guess it shouldnt be a problem. Thax to one and all for their response.

Yes. You can define as many inlet as you want.
