Turbulence Intensity

How do I calculate the turbulence intensity at the inlet of my pipe section to apply as a boundary condition. The pipe is 203mm in diameter and I know the reynolds number is 8.58e+06. Do I need to know any other information to calculate this?

Re: Turbulence Intensity

Hi,

You can used the following

I = 0.16*Re^-1/8

Also see 6.2.2 in the Fluent manual

Dear Eric, Then what will be the Intesity for natural convection, where Rayleigh number is criteria.

Re: Turbulence Intensity

I'm sorry have no experience with natural convection problems so i can't tell you anything about the turbulence intensity.

I just referred to the fluent manual 6.2.2 for this intensity formula.

Eric
