nmake

i am trying to use the nmake command to compile a particular UDF. I am basically following the steps given in a fluent tutorial. but i am not suceeding. following are a series of commands that i tried .. please tell me what i am doing wrong ----

Y:\6\lib_porous\ntx86\2d>nmake

Microsoft (R) Program Maintenance Utility Version 6.00.8168.0 Copyright (C) Microsoft Corp 1988-1998. All rights reserved.

NMAKE : fatal error U1064: MAKEFILE not found and no target specified Stop.

Y:\6\lib_porous\ntx86\2d>nmake clean

Microsoft (R) Program Maintenance Utility Version 6.00.8168.0 Copyright (C) Microsoft Corp 1988-1998. All rights reserved.

NMAKE : fatal error U1073: don't know how to make 'clean' Stop.

Y:\6\lib_porous\ntx86\2d>cd /D Y:\6\

Y:\6>nmake clean

Y:\6>help nmake This command is not supported by the help utility. Try "x /?".

You need to have the file "makefile" with compiler directives where nmake can see it.
