Default help on surface subtracting

Hello all,

I'm having problems with faces subtracting. my model represents an external steady state flow past a hemisphere so I've built 2D axisymmetric model. In order to mesh certain faces finer than others I'v subtracted those faces from the main face, and meshed them one by one. I didn't specified any boundary conditions on the edges dividing between the inner faces nor used virtual edges (I've been advised not to do so). After I examined the solution I saw the surfaces aren't connected together, the flow occurs in each surface separately (even when I tried to use virtual edges). Does anyone know what seems to be the problem ?

Another question is about using the acoustic analysis feature in Fluent 6.1. If I want to find the flow noise over the hemisphere, what kind of sources should I use ?

Thanks in advance, John

Hi!

When you split the surface you probabilly become an extra edge. One edge for the left and one for the right surface. Fluent then treats an extra edge as exterior edge and automaticlly defines a wall bc on it. It it better to make edges first, and the select edges to create a surface. This way the left and right surface will share the middle edge and you won't have this problem any more.
