win2000 vs winXP

Hello,

What's your operating system of choice when you run Fluent? Does one of them have a clear advantage?

Cheers!

Re: win2000 vs winXP

I run FLUENT on Linux because I find it more stable, and I don't have to reboot it everytime Microsoft releases a patch.

However, if you have to choose between Windows 2000 and Windows XP, consider that Windows 2000 is lighter than XP because of its smaller resources request. Windows XP is more "good looking" and a little easier to use, but it needs more system resources.

Tnx. ap

Actually I read somewhere that win2000 has somewhat bad memory management, where "used" memory can remain unavailable until a reboot.

But I agree with you that cosmetics is quite useless for a cfd user, and if winXP looses in a benchmark because of it then the choice is easy.

Cheers!

PS Personally I'd happily change to Linux and try out the FOAM software.
