The best way to make nice xy plots is to write data to file (fluent have this option in xy plots dialog). Created file is ASCII file (text file) with just two columns of numerical data. Then to open this data in Excel, Matlab or TechPlot, and make any changes you want. This way you will be in a full control of your plots you can make then look like you want to.

in TecPlot Menu: File ->Load Data File(s) (Choose your file(s) ) Sorry there is no "Open Data File(s)" menu option in TecPlot... there is "Load Data File(s)". But if you are not comfortable enough with TecPlot to import the data, then I would recommend to use Microsoft Excel, this would save you a lot of time, or any other plotting software that use usually use for your plotting and visualization needs.

You are right TecPlot offers many different option and allow to customize plots very easily. Sometimes i even use tecplot for plotting contour and vector plot of fluent solutions, because it is possible to import fluent .cas and .dat files.
