Turbulent and Free Surface Models

Sir/Madam,

I am a new FLUENT user. My problem is to simulate the two kinds of liquid mixing in the channel and then injecting to the air. I built the two inlet channels, which are combined before injecting to the air. Actually, I would like to study the effect of the shape of the seperation between these two liquids.

I used K-e for turbulence model and VOF for free surface. Three phases are set in VOF, which are Air, Water and Water(1). I modified Water(1) by changing the density parameter to 1,000 kg/m^3. I would like to use the different density to see how these two liquid phases interact in the channel and in the free jet area.

I found the problem that the result was laminar. Two liquids are not mixed. They are separated as layers. I tried to increase the velocity inlet and I found the turbulence occuring between two layers. However, the contour of density is showed that they are separated. Can you recommend me where I have to focus on ? Which parameters that I should concern ?

Thank you in advance for your kindly help.

Re: Turbulent and Free Surface Models

Hi!

The whole idea of the VOF model is that a interface between fluids exists. If you're dealing with 2 fluids that can be mixed (for example achochol and water) you should use mixture multiphase model. I'm not shure what can you do then with the air injection since it does not mix...
