Friends,

When I split a horizontal cylinder using a yz plane, I get two volumes with one face common to both the volumes. Is it possible to have two faces at the cutting junction so that each volume have a separate face and the two volumes be still connected? This is because I would like to mesh each volume using very different mesh sizes.

Split the volume with the face/plane making sure that you deselect the "Connected" option

Why exactly is it you need these faces connected?

If you connect the faces they become a single face. You could connect the vertics & edges, but then both faces would share the same edge mesh distribution. If you use disconnected faces and mesh them using different element sizes, you can still model them as connected fluid zones in fluent using a non-conformal mesh interface.
