Combustion of wood
Hello,
I would like to simulate a combustion process of wood: I have definied the simplified mixture in prePDF and would like to inject the fuel as a non-premixed combustion. But I can't choose "prepdf-mixture" in the injection panel. How can I inject the fuel? In the "Boundary Conditions"-Panel, I can't find a suitable option, too. Thanks, Simon Steinmeyer |
Re: Combustion of wood
To do a particle injection using the prepdf model, set the particle type to combisting-particle. The devolatilization kinteics and fixed carbon can then be changed in the combusting particle materials panel. To inject the fuel through a boundary condition (such as a velocity inlet), set the mixture fraction variable to 1. Use of a velocity inlet in this manner is generally used for gaseous fuels.

Thanks, that helped a lot.

Hello Simon.
I am working with Fluent to simulate the combustion of wood particles (edge length: 8mm). I use the following models: Energy on, Viscous SST k-omega, DO Radiation and species non-premixed combustion. The wood particle is defined as a porous media and the porosity is changing with increasing temperature. This is done by an udf. The problem is that the particle does not heat up when I am working with the non-premixed model. My oxidizer comes with 1293 K as nitrogen and oxygen in the combustion chamber and the fuel (volatiles and co) is released as a function of temperature in the particle via udf. But the temperature in the particle doesn't increase. Does the non-premixed-combustion model not include conduction? Thanks in advance for your efforts. Maria |
