memory requirements - beowulf cluster

I am trying to run a 3 million cell case on a cluster of dual processor, 933MHz PC's with 1 GB RAM on each computer. Does anyone have an estimate of how much RAM per million cells is required on the cluster PC's? I have been able to read the case in on 16 processes (giving me access to 8 GB of RAM) but it will not iterate. I have had success running a 2 million cell case on only 4 processes (2 GB of RAM).

Re: memory requirements - beowulf cluster

i am currenly running a 3.something million cells case on double processor machine (windowsxp) .... it ocupies around 2.6 or 2.8 GB of RAM, the iterations are okey ..but it sometimes hangs while autosaving .... (FLuent support says its due to memory prob)

Communication Device?

What communication device do you use?

I think I should be using Myrinet however when I try it I get the following error message ".../lnx86/gmpi/bin/mpirun No such file or directory"

The only communication device that works is Socket but I believe that it is the cause of significant decrease in performance (excessive paging)

Does anyone have suggestions?

Thanks
