Multi block geometry

Hi: i am trying to mesh a geometry which consists of many volumes using a hex cooper or tet mesh. I tried uniting the volume and then mesh the entire geomtry. But it gives a bad mesh. Does the volume(s)need to have a particularly better aspect when using such mesh types?. Thanks in advance,

Regards Samir.
