2D Reynold Equations

Dear Friends If we analyse the flow field for turbulent flow in 2D duct using 2D version of fluent. What form of Reynolds equation we solved? can we say that W,w' and z derivative becomes zero? Because the turbulence is a 3d phenomenon. I will be grateful if any body clear my doubts.

Re: 2D Reynold Equations

I coud be long to explain, the third eq is not considered, for many cases is a good aproximation even if it is not the right way, you must stablish some hypothesis to make you 2D simulation a valid one, but if you really wanna learn try some books,

Wilcox D.C. Turbulence modeling for CFD (1994) Versteeg H.K., Malalasekera W. Introduction to computational fluid dynamics. The finite volume method (Longman, 1995)

etc

good luck

Re: 2D Reynold Equations

Since ur considering 2-D and there is no point of other direction i mean in Z dir, obivosuly all the term in N-S equation containing z derivative will be zero and which reduces 2-D with 2 eqations, and since u r case is turbulent and if u consider RANS concept u have to average everything. So while averaging u have to consider mean and fluctuating part and apply in NS Eq u will get averaged equation with Reynolds stresses.

Re: 2D Reynold Equations

Hi,

I look for commercial program (based on finite element method or final difference method) that can solve elastic problem and fluid-flow problems. I am working on an Elasto-Hydro-Dynamic problem, i.e. solving simultaneously Reynolds equation (possibly Stokes/Navier-Stokes equations) with CAVITATION effect and equation of elastic deformation (same as problem of flow over elastic plate). If you deal with the same program, answer me please.

Thank you
