DPM model coupled with VOF

Has anyone tried to model the transport of particles in a VOF model? I am able to compute reasonable trajectory paths, however, in some cases I have particles that leaves the water and enter the air. This only occurs when I turn the turbulence module. Has anyone encountered this, or have an explanation?

One other quick question, what is the best way to model sedimentation? Will it suffice to simply specify a wall as a "trap" boundary and then look at the accretion on that wall?

Anyone who has any experience modeling open channel flow in FLUENT would be very helpful. Thanks so much!!

Doug
