If you use DM, you can save a lot of your time for repetitive studies. In case you want to change your model a bit, when you are using DM, rest of the steps (meshing, setup etc) do not require a lot time as settings remain there for your use. On the other hand if you are using any other modelling s/w you will have to do it from start.
Finally the choice is yours..!!!

hi,
as said, modeling by dm is prefered due to more compatibility with whole ansys utilities. but if you insist to use some other softwares such as catia, solidworks,.... choose your desired one which can export geometry in ACIS (*.sat) format. this is somewhat the best format for transfering geometry between softwares. however you must use ansys for meshing and the mesh would not be exported by such softwares. if you want a program to make geometry and mesh both in one, use ansys workbench or gambit.(I prefer gambit!)
yours,
mohammad
