2d Vs 3d

Hi, I am modeling 2d geometry. As far as I know the 2d problem is solved by using a 2d grid. But in some other cfd codes the 2d problems is modelled by using 3d grid and assuming the number of grid in z directions is 1. I want to compare my 2d simulations with 3d (1 grid in z direction) by by using fluent. In this way I can check whether 2d and 3d gives me the same results. The problem is what should be the boundary conditions, in the xy plane. Somebody has idea about this or anybody tried something like this. Y

No doubt your boundary conditions on that wall should be frictionless and adiabatic. You especially wouldn't want those walls to be periodic, as that allows flow in the third direction to hold some of the momentum. But, I haven't tried it.
