Porous medium

I'm not sure if it is possible to transform the continuity equation ∂ρ/∂t+▼•(ρv)=S in Fluent. I want to modify this equation by ε∂ρ/∂t+▼•(ρv)=S for adapting my problem to a fluid flowing through porous media.

If I can't, I could program ε∂ρ/∂t+▼•(ρv)=S with a UDS but I would got the problem that Fluent will solve ∂ρ/∂t+▼•(ρv)=S either. At less that we could put the continuity equation away but I don't know how.

Do you think, it is a good approximation to replace ε∂ρ/∂t+▼•(ρv)=S by ∂ρ/∂t+▼•(ρv)=S/ε?

I am open to any suggestion who would positively solve my problem.

Re: Porous medium

Sorry, I found my answer about the possibility of transforming the continuity equation ∂ρ/∂t+▼•(ρv)=S in Fluent. I wanted to modify this equation by ε∂ρ/∂t+▼•(ρv)=S for adapting my problem to a fluid flowing through porous media. This is done naturally when we select the porous media option. (See section 6.19.5 in the manuel) It proove that I passed a lot of time on that model and I forgot some essential definition!

Hi David, Your case was interesting to me too as I am dealing with filling phenomena in porous media. What are you working on exactly?

Thanks Amir

BTW. I am taking ME at UNB, New Brunswick, how about u?

Re: Porous medium

Hi Amir, I study in Trois-Rivières in Hydrogen research institute. I want to calculate the leak of hydrogen release from a tank with metal hydride inside. I separate the problem in two: 1-heat and mass transfer in the metal hydride and 2-transport of hydrogen in air.

I am still in the first part of my problem. I try to reproduce the model (and their results!) of the article "Study of two-dimensional and dynamic heat and mass transfer in a metal-hydrogen reactor" from "International journal of hydrogen energy". You can get this article with science direct.

The initial problem is almost well posed for be solutionated with Fluent. The sole thing is to add a UDS to represent the porous medium. That's where I found that my new problem is. My UDS don't react properly with my parameter. I really don't understand why it is not working well but I am sure that I'll find.
