Getting STL files to fluent
 

I have an STL file written in Ascii stl format and I am able to impor tit into gambit, mesh it and send it to fluent but i want to modify some of the geometry while I'm in gambit however it is imported as a virtual face and I can't seem to convert it (so i can do boolean operations).

Is there a way in gambit to convert it to real or am i best off using something else and then moving it to fluent?

Excuse me if you know this. You can perform boolean operation between two vertual geometries. Means, you may create another vertual geometry and perform the necessary operation to produce the desired change. -US

I'll have to try that if things don't work. You wouldn't happen to know what "Initialization failed; perturb boundary nodes and try again." means and what to do about it?

I imported a large stl file, stitched faces together, and am trying to mesh the volume, but it gets stuck and leaves me with that message.

besides, it only lets you perform boolean operations on real volumes, im still stuck on the same error, it takes a loooooong time to smooth my face mesh and i think i need to do that before i can get a volume mesh. ideas?

You need another software Tgrid.

I have been trying to use Tgrid, but even after smooting in gambit, Tgrid can't seem to smooth out the rest of the skews. (i have 3 or 4 left)

while meshing i think u r volume meshing directly instead u edge mesh with interval count option in very small edges and try for volume mesh bz small edges cannot be meshed properly if u directly volume mesh it

The thing is that when i import the stl into gambit all I get is a face, I don't have any edges to mesh. is their any way to split this face up( it's like a cube) because since it's a virtual face I havn't been able to do any boolean or other operations to split it at all?
