Guys,

I have a 32bit operating system. I have a problem with memory allocation. The geometry that I have is with 3 million cells and Fluent load the .cas file and once i start iterating it gives me this error

Error: 1000000: Failed to allocate 58.6MB memory (..\..\src\amgif.c:1051)

Error Object: ()

What do you all think will be a good specification for the system that I should be having to run this case??

Thanks in advance

Seb

A very simple way to deal with this problem is to use parallel solver. I think we all know already this famous 32bit OS impossibility of allocating more than 2GB of memory for a single process. So simply, carefully partition your grid in the serial solver using an appropriate method and start parallel solver! Problem solved!

A complicated way is to switch to a 64bit environnement, including 64bit Fluent, but for a 3 million cells grid you MUST use parallel solver anyway (unless you got a 5GHz processor).

Of course, this only applies if you have more than 2GB of memory. If you do not have it, then buy some more!

Best wishes, Razvan

Do you have a dual processor machine or at least two computers to use for this job?

Hi Seabstian

I have a cluster with 1+4 nodes (one master and four slaves), and it is a 32-bit system with Red Hat 9.0 OS. And I have run the files, which had three million plus cells in the geometry. Although, I can parallalize it, however, that made the process slower, that's a temporary problem with my machine. What I want to say is that you can run it on single processor with more than three million cells.

Yes, its better if you have a parallel system. That's always good, and will take lesser time. If you don't have parallel system, or two machines connected to each other then you have to check with the memory during execution of the program. That depends on which OS you are using.
