Kill script file?
 

Hi all: When I start Fluent, a ".bat" file appears in the desktop with the name "kill-fluent-...". Why appears it? Sorry for my bad english and thank you very much for your time! Regards:

Don't worry, It's just a script to kill fluent if it hangs. If you exit normally, it will be removed.

Hi Edi: Thank you very much for your answer. I tried it. I opened Fluent in 3d, the file appeared in the desktop, and then I closed the program and the file didn´t removed. Is it normal or it is a "dangerous" file? Sorry for my bad English and thank you for your time. Best regards:

Oh, ok you're working on a Windows machine...on linux/unix platforms it is removed automatically. As a matter of fact under windows you have to trash it manually. Anyway, there might be a way to remove it automatically even under windows but never tried...

Hi Edi: Thank you very much for your answer. What is the best platform and computer specifications to run Fluent well? I have an Intel at 2.80 GHz with Win XP, 40GB hard-disk, 256MB RAM memory (I don´t know if it is DIMM, SDRAM,...). Is it a good computer to use Fluent or is it a "potato"? Well, surely somebody else in this forum is more skilled then me about hardware requirements...but, if I have to tell you the truth, in my opinion your PC is reasonable for 2d or small 3d simulations not involving demanding numerical models (LES or DNS, for example), so we can say: yes, maybe it's a bit of a "potato"...

Now I personally work on a unix/linux workstation cluster, but from my personal experience: I ran 400k tetra cells turbopump models (MRF, 3d, ske) on a AMD 2.6-2.8GHz (I can't remember now...) 512 MB RAM DDR 80 Gb HD PC and It was not so funny...these days I tried Pentium IV 3.4 GHz HT 2 GB RAM DDR 190 GB HD PC and it's reasonable for most cases.

Hi Edi: Thank you for your answer. Do you think that 2 GB of RAM would be ok? I have another question: I am trying to simulate a 2d airfoil; I draw the picture in Gambit, I mesh it, but when I try to open with Fluent it says that the drawing has wrong dimensions (3). What is happening? Regards:

It sounds like when you wrote your mesh you didn't click the "Export 2D x-y mesh" option.
