Gambit warning

Hi
While creating mesh for a geometry in Gambit, it gave me the following warning: volume no:XX contains 2 highly skewed elements(EQUIVALENT SKEWNESS > 0.98) will there be any problem when a solver is employed to work on this mesh. thank u in advance |

It's not good. You can typically get away with one or two elements (assuming that you're dealing with a hundred thousand or more total elements) that are in the low 0.9's to mid 0.9's, but you shouldn't try running with anything that has skewness that is over 0.98 for sure. Highly skewed elements introduce error in your solution, and can cause your model to crash. Use the Examine Mesh Tool (icon on the bottom right of the screen... looks like an all yellow checkerboard with a magnifying glass over it) in Gambit to find where the hihgly skewed elements are located and to see what you can do about correcting the mesh. If you can, you want to get all of your elements below 0.9.

Hi Madhukar,
I agree with Jason, If you could modify the elements with help of Gambit or with T-grid it is always better and one should go for it before startiong the case. In worst case where you can't change the mesh then there is very much possibility it will run the solution successfuly even with that skewed mesh, I did it couple of times but in these cases one should realy look for where those elements are placed. Whethere those elements are in main fluid domain; if so then there is harm in running the solution. Best Regards; |
