Import 3D models to GAMBIT from 3DStudio
Hi all.
I have done some models in 3DStudio: is there any way to import them to Gambit or this programa is only able to manage CAD files, like CATIA, SW, Pro/E? If not, Is there any other meshing program that I can use with 3DStudio models (TGrid, etc.) in order to make analysis in Fluent with them? Many thanks for advance! |

Sounds like you should try the STL format and import that into ICEM CFD.

Wow xD! As simple as taking the Stereolithograph format STL? I must try it! I didn't know this format can be opened from gambit as an ICEM imput...
Thanks a lot Michael! |

No worries. If you have problems in converting the files, you could try a work around with Rhinoceros. Seems to know more ore less every format. It has a free trial option. http://www.rhino3d.com/

Re: Import 3D models to GAMBIT from 3DStudio
I have never used this program.
Are you referring to open my 3DS files with Rhinoceros and save them in STL format with this program if I have problems while importing 3DS models as ICEM Input? Or Rhinoceros is capable for open 3DS files and save as a file "readable" by gambit? Thanx for your pacience and help. |

Rhino can convert 3DS to STL (and many other formats) Please let me know if you succeed. Check out http://www.3d02.com/ for high quality 3D models :) - Michael Bo

Re: Import 3D models to GAMBIT from 3DStudio
Hey, that is a good 3DS models site; I knew it and it's very fine. But these days I'm stucked with an error in Fluent and I haven't tried nothing with Rhinoceros.
You can see my problem in a thread above (Title: Floating point and segmentation error...), but nobody replies it... I think that is because my harware is not compatible with fluent :(. I'm very frustrated... |
