Compute the power of small wind turbine.

Hi, Please someone gives me some advice about wind turbine computation. I am computing the power output of small wind turbine using Fluent, and has the results. I am confused about how to get the power. Since the power of the wind turbine is equal to the torque timing the rotational speed. I used the report moment to get the power. the power=moment*rotation speed. Is the moment is the same with the torque forced on the blades? I think I set the right center of the axis for the moment. It seems the moment includes the pressure and viscous moment. So I got the total moment. the value is 2.8nm. But it is too big than what I imagined. Is the method to compute the power right? or should I refine the mesh to have futher computation?

If I changed the reference value of the pressure, the total moment is also changed. what pressure should I use for my computation?

thanks.

it seems the computing of pressure force will use the reference pressure. so the pressure moment will also change with the pressure force and the reference pressure in the reference value. so what reference pressure should I select in the reference values?

thanks.

Re: Compute the power of small wind turbine.

I fixed my problem. My situation and my model are complicated. In brief I enlarged my domain to three blades. And remesh the domain, and boundary layers, and defined the surfaces of the blades as a whole wall. then compute the moment from the report. It is approaching the right data from the test.

Hi Luolin,

Can I ask you a question, I am doing the same project with you, also, my result is too big by comparing with the experimental data. do you know how to solve the problem. normally, it is a 10kw wind turbine, after finish the simulation, the result is over 200 kw which is unacceptable. I don't know how to approach to the right data. hope you can give me some tips.

Thank you
Regards
Han

I am not so sure, he/she asked a question and answered himself/herself 4 times :)
No one ever dared to answer him/her :)

hi caohan
i have the same problem as you;big amount of torques which make unacceptable power output.
what can i do to fix it??
would you plz help me?
