Hello,

Is it possible to use autosave feature in Fluent to export data for eg. Tecplot? I know only the manual possibility.

regardss, Maciej

you can do that as follow: 1-after some iteration ... solve-->execute commands-->and define new macro file-->export... save macro and choose no. of iteration for repeat if u need data at different iterations put % in the name of the file(see help on solve menu for more detials) have a good luck Khairy-Egypt

Thanks a lot. Inspired by your response I studied the documentation and will test it tomorrow when I am at my University. It seems to be promising solution...

I finally solved that problem but have a few remarks.

So finally it turned out that everything was OK except the file naming with %. The documentation is not clear at this point, it describes three cases:

* * *

- For unsteady calculations, you can save files with names that reflect the time step at which they are saved by including the character string %t in the file name. For example, you can specify contours-%t.ps for the file name, and the solver saves a file with the appropriate name (e.g., contours-0001.ps if the solution is at the first time step).

- To save a file with a name that reflects the iteration at which it is saved, use the character string %i in the file name. For example, you can specify contours-%i.ps for the file name, and the solver saves a file with the appropriate name (e.g., contours-0010.ps if the solution is at the 10th iteration).

- To save a hardcopy file with a name that reflects the total number of hardcopy files saved so far in the current solver session, use the character string %n in the file name.

This option can be used only for hardcopy files.

* * *

So it seems like the last sentence referred not only to the last option but to all three options. The filenaming with % works only with hardcopy files.

The effect was that after reaching that point when Fluent should export data to the file it stopped and waited for me to change the name (not to overwrite the existing file). But I managed and added to the macro an executuion of my external program I wrote in FORTRAN to rename the file according to the number of files. So with some workarounds it finally works.

But it is quite sad that such powerful program like Fluent suffers from lack of such simple option (very simple to code).

Thanks

dear sir, to save a data file for tecplot at each 100 iteration during the run automatically gust do the following: 1-solve-->execute commands-->define a new macro and choose every 100 2-define macro-->file-->export...-->tecplot(and choose the variables u need);in the file name write for example

c:\khairy_tecplot%i.dat %i will write the iteration level at the end of the file name. 3-back to execute commands and press end macro,then write down macro-1 in command 4-solve iterate 5-i already try that;it will be useful for u have a good luck

This way it works, thanks.

But Tecplot Technical Support advised me to export CGNS files from Fluent first (I dont know if CGNS are somehow better than Tecplot) So with CGNS exporting the % autonumbering doesn't work. But for Tecplot it works fine.

Thanks for answer, Maciej
