Vortex Induced vibration of subsea pipeline

Hi,

I am trying to model the vortex induced vibration for subsea pipeline. basically the flow over the subsea pipeline creates vortex which cuases the pipe to vibrate. What i have done so far i have a created a 2d model of a pipe within a square and passed the flow over it. But becuase the pipe in the middle is fixed it wont create any vortexs. I was wondering if anyone could help me. I am not really an expert in fluent and have only been using it for a short while.

You should have vortices even if the pipe is fixed.

can you have a look at this document Page 5, I am after to get vortex like that. But what i am getting is just showing a vortex around the pipe wall. do I need to use dynamic mesh for this case?

First of all, you should study the Fluent tutorial about the flow around a circular cylinder. In this tutorial you can learn how to obtain vortex-shedding and calculate the Strouhal number.

One reason why you are not detecting vortex-shedding in your simulation may be the discretization of the convective terms in the Navier-Stokes equation. In general, first-order upwind and power-law interpolation generate false-diffusion and make difficult to simulate vortex-shedding. You must use at least second-order schemes.

I have access to Fluentusers.com website, but could not find any tutorial regarding "flow around a circular cylinder". Do you know where I can find this tutorial ? thank you
