Default blower model
Posts: n/a
I am trying to get the mass flow rate out of a 5 blades blower. The blower runs at 10,000 rpm. So far I have modeled 1/5 of the blower using mass flow as the inlet and pressure out as the outlet.

After running the model and when the mass flow rate at the outlet levels out, the velocity I am getting is huge, ~500 m/s. Even if I reduced the rpm to half (5,000 rpm), the velocity is still in the ~500 m/s range.

any ideas why I am getting such a large value for velocity.

I would suggest you do the following:- 1-Hand Calculations by drawing the velocity triangle at the exit tip of the blower, you know two velocities, the tip rotation and from the mass flow rate and exit area the relative velocity then compute the absolute velocity and compare your calculations with those obtained from the CFD analysis. 2- Read tutorial 8 (Using Multiple Rotating Reference Frames) it is about a blower analysis, check your inlet boundary condition, etc.. Hope that will help
