Default Ataching two models in GAMBIT

Hi all,

I have two models created in ProE. I want to attach the two together to complete my structure. How can I do this in GAMBIT?

Do I open two new separate files? How do I bring the two together? They exist as separate files in ProE.

Thanks, Vidya

Depends on your geometry and how complicated it is. In Pro/E you can create a dummy assembly, bring the two parts into it, and then merge one into the other (I think you go to Edit->Component Operations, and choose Merge in the picker). Otherwise in Gambit you can use the unite command (export each Pro/E file as a Step file or Iges file and import both files into your Gambit workspace), but this may not work for complicated imported geometry. If the two parts match at a face then you can connect the face (in the face tools, it's on the top row of commands and looks like a black plug) but all of the edges and vertices have to match up (within Gambit's tolerance) for this to work. If one of the parts has virtual geometry then you'll have use the "virtual" option in the connect face command. If you use the connect option, then it turns the two faces (one for each volume) into a single face (shared by the two volumes). Gambit understands that you want the two volumes to be continuous across this connected face and therefore no BC needs to be applied to the face, Gambit will simply ignore it when writing your mesh file.

Hope this helps, and good luck, Jason
