xy plot: multiple lines?
 
Hi!

When I am plotting any value along the wall of my geometry (using xy plot, x-axis: direction vector), Fluent gives me TWO curves, one about 10 % higher than the other... For another mesh, there are even SIX curves!!

What happend? And what curve is the right one?

I had the same geometry (but another mesh) and everything was fine using the same settings.

Any idea?

Hm... I think that if you just select wall as the surface to use, then Fluent will plot all values for all wall cells. This may produce wierd plots. Maybe you would want to create a line or some other surface (depending on what your wall looks like) and plot those values instead.

Hi,

It seems to be, that it is not possible to create a line at the same position like the wall...

And I do not think, thats the problem. There is no option for selecting "wall as the surface to use" in xy plot...

Besides that, I want to plot y+ or y*, and thats only possible for a wall..

Any other idea?

Hi again!

I was thinking about the Surfaces-panel, where you choose your wall surface if you want to plot y+ or y* values in the Solution XY Plot-dialouge.

Anyway, as you say, these values are only available for walls. What I was trying to say was that if you for example wish to plot y+ values for a cylindrical pipe along the main flow axis, and the flow is not symmetrical, then it is of course possible to have different y+ values at the wall in the plane perpendicular to the main flow axis. This will result in several points and/or lines being plotted.

A way to get around this that perhaps would require quite some extra work is of course to write the data to a file and process and plot in some other, more convenient program. :P
