how to see axial vel on delta wing
I am working on the delta wing aerodynamics. I have made the grid in cartisian coordinates. Now i want to see the axial velocity contours at different x/L planes on wing.(note the freestream velocity is in x-direction). What i do for that ?? because i think the axial velocity in fluent are only useful when you made your grid in cylindrical coordinates.

You can look at axial velocity. Fluent things in Cylindrical, so whenever you're looking at cylindrical information (radial, axial, tangential) then that's Fluent transforming the data into cylindrical coordinates. Just define your axis by going to Define->Boundary Conditions and selecting your Fluid volume. In there you can define a vertex and vector for your axis (so you can use 0,0,0 and 1,0,0... I think the default uses the Z-axis as your axis, which is why things look wrong).

Thanks you Jason, My problem is solved as you instructed me. But there is one another problem. I have the converged cases. When I change the axis in fluent in converged cases, it gives me correct results in fluent post-processor. But when I export that file for Fieldview, the fieldview gives an error while reading that file. I think, this error is removed by changing the axis in fluent, then initializing it and then converged it again. What u say?

I don't think that would help, because Fluent only thinks in Cartesian. When you look at Cylindrical information, it's converted from the cartesian values on the fly. Were you able to read the case into Fieldview before you changed the axis? I would do a search on the forum for Fieldview error and see if you can find a fix to your problem. If not, then post your problem (with the full error message from Fieldview).

If the fluent only thins in cartisian, then axial, radial and tangential velocities are showing what in fluent??? for fieldview error, i will send you message tomorrow.

Axial, Radial, and Tangential velocities are calculated at the time when you plot them (or report them or export them) by a simple coordinate transformation. The axis for the cylindrical coordinate system is defined in the boundary conditions for the FLUID volume (you enter an origin point and a direction vector).

Don't send me the Fieldview error, because I've never worked with Fieldview. And search the forum before posting the error, someone else has probably already had the same problem.

The only thing you have to do is to define your axis in the Boundary Conditions of the Fluid volume (Define->Boundary Conditions, select the fluid volume... there you'll see a place to put an origin of the axis and a direction vector for the axis).

Once you do that, whenever you plot axial, tangential, or radial velocities, then Fluent will automatically calculate those values for you based on the axis you defined.
