wall shadow help

Default wall shadow help

Hello all

In the geometry I am dealing with now, which is a pipe opening into a container, both the volumes being "Fluid" zones, there is a shadow wall created for this pipe by default.What is a shadow wall and does this affect the calculations?Thanks. chankar.

Fluent can only deal with one sided boundary conditions (i.e. a pressure inlet only has fluid mesh on one side, same with any other inlet or outlet... same for a wall). So if you have a plane that represents a wall and it has volume on both sides of it, Fluent creates the shadow wall (there are two sides to the wall, therefore Fluent needs two BCs which represent that wall... the shadow wall is that second BC). This also occurs when one side of the wall has a "fluid" volume and the other side has a "solid" volume... like the metal that makes up the walls of the pipe.
