how to simulate the wetting dynamics of a droplet
Hello, i am newbie of Fluent. I'm trying to use it to simulate the wetting dynamics of a droplet on the solid surface. Could anyone give me a simple example in this topic, so that i could start easier? Thx!

Re: how to simulate the wetting dynamics of a drop
hi, weimin:
Actually, I am using FLUENT to model the motion of a drop on a surface. I don't know exactally how to do your situation, Probally you can patch a drop on the surface (with a contact angle, for example 120), and set the contact angle to 0 or very small. lichun |
Re: how to simulate the wetting dynamics of a drop
Hallo Lichun,
glad to see a compatriot here, thank you for your reply. My goal is to simulate the dynamics of the drop on a structured surface, such as parallel or orthogonal micro grooves. Since i am a newbie of Fluent, my first step is to simulate the drop on the smooth surface. Following is my idea about modelling, which derives from the example of fluent tutorial guide bowl.msh. 1. 2d multiphase, vof method. 2. defining a rectangular face, the upside edge of which is pressure-inlet, and the others are wall. 3. patching the drop fraction to the bottom edge, in the shape of meniscus. Maybe due to that wrong idea or my little expierence on Fluent, i cannot get a satisfying result yet. I am still working on it. I will paste new result here when i have it. Any kind of opinion or advice are appreciated. |
Re: how to simulate the wetting dynamics of a drop
I strongly suggest you try 3-d, VOF mode, I tried 2-D model in my case, it does not work. PS, I tried the GEo-reconstruct scheme, it does not work, but the Implicit scheme works.

Re: how to simulate the wetting dynamics of a drop
Hello Lichun,
thanks for your suggestion. Do you have any idea about the "Field Function" patching on the liquid volume fraction? or is it necessary to do so? I think, i should maybe patch a velocity function to the liquid. However, what are the function? Weimin |
Re: how to simulate the wetting dynamics of a drop
HI,
I don't think you need do that, you just need to patch a drop (volume fraction is 1), right? Why do you need a velocity function, what kind of velocity function? You need to let the drop decide its velocity, right? lichun |
Re: how to simulate the wetting dynamics of a drop
i see. I had a wrong idea. Thanks a lot for your correction. I will keep on trying.

Hello Lichun,
I have make a 3d, VOF model of my own, with which I can't get expected results. If you have interest, could you please take a look at my case file? Please send me email sothat i can send you the 5M case file. Mein is: mwmb2@hotmail.com Cheers Weimin |
dear sir, i suppose to make a simulation of the absorber in the vapor absorption system.. i have a tank contains lithuim bromide solution and the vapor inlet from the top of the tank and a mass transfer happens omn the free surface between the water vapor and the lithuim bromide...
thanks and waiting your replay aloosh Quote:

Simulation of impinging droplets on a steel plate
Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum and to working in Fluent. Does anyone know how to model impinging droplets on a heated steel plate? The cooling technique used is jet impingement cooling. I need to study the droplet dynamics, their trajectories and the heat transfer procedure from a point of view of a droplet. Any help would be sincerely appreciated. |
