Heat transfer on solid/fluid

Hi, I´m trying to simulate how to cool a brake disc of a car. I set the disc as solid. The idea is to cool it with air that moves around it. The idea is to set an initial temperature for the disc and a constant temp for the fresh air. But I´m seeing that I only can put fixed temperature for the solid. Perhaps I´m not seeing something but.. where can I set a non-fixed temperature for the disc in order to simulate the problem?? Also, for the walls that separate the solid from the fluid, is sufficient putting them as coupled or I have to something else?

Thank you folks.

Re: Heat transfer on solid/fluid

When u are trying to simulate the brake disc cooling, it involves condution as well as convection.

This problem can be done in two ways...

1) Solving for the convection and conduction combinedly.

2) Decoupling the problem, by solving for the convection first and by using the "h" values solving for the conduction alone( here in the 2nd stage, we wont solve for the fluid flow). This decoupling helps when the mesh size is too large, i.e when solving the brake disc with the full vehicle model.

As you might be solving only the brake disc alone, by considering the fluid volume around, you can solve the condution and convection simultaneously.

To give the initial temperature condition to the rotor solid, we have to patch the solid surface and solid volume with the initial temperature of the rotor.then it wont be constant and will be changing with time. This can be captured by the unsteady run.

hi i have done of 2d solid heat trnasfer it worked and a heated cylinder is cooled by coil in which having fluid problem is not converging yet
