Default meshing water coolant circuit in Gambit

Hi All

I am new to Gambit & need some help from the Gambit Gurus out there. I have a compression moulding die cooled by water circulating inside the mould. The geometry is in Pro-E.

1>How do I model the water flowing through the cavities in the mould (which is the hollow space in the geometry)?

2> How do I mesh two surfaces that overlap or touch each other to ensure mesh connectivity? (heat transfer surfaces)

3>Is there any option to connect meshes (like merge nodes option in Hypermesh)?

Thanks in advance SM

Remember that wherever you want the flow is where you need the mesh when dealing with CFD. So the hollow portions need to be meshed but the die itself need not be meshed unless you are looking at fluid/structure interactions. As for connectivity, there are Grid Interfaces and grid merging options that you can use in fluent to merge 2 grids. I would however recommend that you try to merge them in Gambit before you import it into Fluent as interfaces can cause errors if not done carefully. Phil

Thanks Phil I need to study the heat transfer between the die and the water. Shall I not mesh the die & define it as solid region? How do I connect the grids in Gambit? Do I connect the overlapping surfaces & then mesh? Or mesh them seperately & then connect them? SM

Yeah, if you are trying to study the heat transfer, then you need to mesh both and be able to address them separately. You can either mesh them separately or mesh them together, but either way you need to define one as a fluid zone and the other as a solid zone in Gambit.
