examine mesh

hi

which quality type of examine mesh in gambit is the best to judge the mesh? I want to modelling ash erosion of tube section in air channel

thx

Hi, the best type of quality criterion is the default equiangle skew. It represents a comparison of all the internal angles per cell. If the angles are the same such as in a cube or an equiangle triangle then there are no defferences in angles and the quality is close to 0 (very good). As cells distort and change shape to fill a volume, the cells stretch and the angles change. For really stretched cells there will usually be a very tiny angle and some larger ones, this gives poor quality closer to 1. You should aim for a maximum skew value of no greater than 0.9 and ideally 0.85. Any higher and it can become extremely difficult to get a converged result. It may take time to get a mesh with those characteristics but thats part of the art of CFD! Meshing takes ages sometimes...

Good luck!

Carlos.
