periodic and transient flow
 

Hi

I try to simulate unsteady flow in a channel with ribs. I would like to use periodic boundary condition for reduced computatioal domain, but in the fluent mannual said that

"Note that transient simulations for fully-developed fluid flow are not valid with translational periodic flow"

Can I use periodic condition with unsteady simulation?

what says in fluent manual is wrong. check out a paper published by sung-eun kim named "an implicit fractional-step method for efficient transient simulation of incompressible flows". In it, he applied periodic bc to solve fully developed turbulent flow in a channel using les/nita.
