Hello! all,
I do CFD on manifolds, generally steady state with mass flow or pressure conditions. My typical targets are pressure drop or minimum mass flow rates. One of the customers requested the target to be (Ageometric/ Aeffective)^2 < 0.60 What does this mean? Thanks Venu |

(geometric(physical) area / effective(aerodynamic) area)*SQUARED*
<less than: 0.6 |

Thanks! Phil,
I am kind of novice to this method. Basically can do a steady state run with all ports flowing. Then I am assuming that geometric area is the total surface area of the flow volume (manifold). Is there a way to calculate aerodynamic area in say Fluent? Thanks a lot Venu |

I'll tell you what I tell everyone, do the relevant tutorials and look at the user guide! I get the impression you work so you could even get paid to do it. It wouldn't take long.
For all the basic notation and maths, etc the web is the best thing to use, or the fluent documentation. Wikipedia is really good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Venu,
For all I know the effective flow area can not be larger than the geometric area. That's what the crietria suggests, right? For example at a 90 degree bend the flow after the bend doesn't occupy the whole pipe cross section. So if you define a plane after the bend and look at velcoity profile it shows very low velocity areas wich can be clipped and its area can be reported in Fluent. Hope this helps. |
