IC Engine Simulation

I am trying to simulate a SI engine model in Fluent 6.3. I have simulated the cold flow (fuel without combustion), but I have not been able to solve combustion model. If I increase the temperature by patching t 1500K, the temperature is quickly limited to 1K by the solver; and when I used spark ignition, the reaction started but with the rate of order of 10^(-29) and the temperature and pressure plots also revealed no change. I am using the Species Transport model. i have also tried the premixed combustion and partially premixed combustion models, but they also failed. If anyone could solve this problem please help. Its urgent

sorry .. one mistake was there. i am using 6.2 version of fluent not 6.3...

Re: IC Engine Simulation

In the basic courses that we teach for non-technical people, we talk about the 3T's of combustion - time, temperature, and turbulence. So which ones are you missing?

What are you doing with the fuel? Is it a liquid being sprayed in? Or already a gas?

In the species transport model, what species, reactions, and what kinetics do you have? If you are using species not in the library, are the properties (enthalpies) set up properly.

Sounds like you have checked out specific functions for an IC engine set-up. You might take a step back and just simulate a box at steady state conditions, using your same flows, species, and reactions to ensure that your combustion mechanism is okay.

thanks Allan

Thanks Allan ,

I have tried to simulate the combustion of the fuel mixture for steady state , as you have suggested and it seems that there is problem in the properties only. I am trying to work it out and will hopefully solve the engine case also. Thanks for your generous help.
