Separation
Hi guys,
When looking at simulation results, how can I actually know if separation did occur or did not occur? Thanks! Giannis |
Re: Separation
well you can judge from the streamlines, which you can plot using DISPLAY option in the menu.

Re: Separation
How can I do that? Which option is it? Is it the option path lines under display?
Im in that menu but I cant actually display them, particularly what do I have to do? By the way, im running a 2-d simulation, does this make a difference? |
Re: Separation
The common characteristics of 2D flow separations are:- 1) The boundary layer detaches from the wall 2) Occurrences of reversed flows and swirls
When the boundary layer detaches from the wall, a wake of slow moving air flow is formed downstream of the body. This can be illustrated using velocity contours and streamlines. Furthermore, there will be reversed flows, just downstream of the separation point. Depending on the severity of the separation, swirls might occur. Both can be illustrated with velocity vectors. |
Re: Separation
Using pathlines option u can generate streamlines, further u can also infer from velocity vectors.
