I'm modeling a VOF model , turbulent (k-e model), just wondering if anybody knows how to activate "law of the walls" in fluent. Can we also activate it if it's laminar? thanks a lot for any help

Isn't the law of the wall used in 'enhanced wall treatment' in the turbulence model menu?
You should look up the user guide because there are different models for fine grids close to walls/coarse grids and combinations of the two. You'll need to check the user guide also to see if you can access the wall treatment options in laminar, I assume DNS. I don't think you can use it because I think the 'law of the wall' governs turbulence calculations close to the wall, and laminar doesn't use one. You'd need an ultra fine grid close to the wall. You can certainly use it with the ke model but you should turn it on once you have a well converged solution. USING BOUNDARY LAYERS TO INCREASE GRID DENSITY CLOSE TO THE WALL GIVES A MUCH BETTER IMPROVEMENT IN ACCURACY THAN USING THE EXTRA WALL TREATMENT OPTIONS. hope this helps. Phil |

Phil,
Thank you very much for your help, it really was usefull... I will run my simulation twice, once using boundary layers and the other using the "enhanced wall treatment" option and compare my results. also, I double checked, the "law of the wall" CANNOT be used for laminar flows. thanks |
