DES and LES meshing: tips and advice?

Hello,

I'd like to enquire if any of you can advise me on a tutorial or guidelines on grid generation for DES and LES problems. I understand the meshing is different than RANS, more complex and delicate so I turn to all the great scientists and engineers of the forum for some help! I mainly intend to use GridGen, Gambit and FLUENT.

Thank you in advance.

James

Hi,

As far commercial codes are concerned meshing does not follow any global rules. There are some thumb rules which one can develop thro' experience. other wise meshing must go with validating the simulated results with exp results. First attempt give a try with the coarse grid and see the results. Then go further increasing the number nodes till you get grid independent solution.

Hope this helps

It is not possible to obtain a mesh independent solution for LES/DES - unless you have gone past having the refinement required for a DNS solution.

Dave,

Can you explain about DNS pls. How can I model in DNS? Can I do it in FLUENT?

Sham.
