Spark Igntion in IC engines

does anybody have steps to solve spark igntion engine in FLUENT 6.2/6.3... please help...

You might start with combustion, then spark and after that both. Fluent has also a model for spark ignition but I never tried this one.

Does your problem comes from the physical model or just the solver option in fluent ?

thanks for the reply.. i could not understand what you ment by it... do u mean first i will solve the problem for combustion with say species transport and then solve the problem with spark igntion and then couple it...? i have never tried a coupled problem .... i am trying to simulate a combustion process for spark igntion process and dertemine the species (radicals ) at the end of the combustion process. the fuel is methane-air mixture.

hope ull help me further,,,, thanks SANTOSH

Re: Spark Igntion in IC engines

If you need the radicals at the end of the combustion, then you don't really need the simulation of the spark.

As you say, used species transports, energy equation...

To start the simulation you can used fluent model for the spark plug (I can't help you with this one) or used a small volume at 3000 K near the spark plug.

I don't understant if your problem concern physics or the options in fluent.

Re: Spark Igntion in IC engines

hi thanks for the reply.. i am simulating spark igntion combustion in internal combustion engine and i dont have any other codes like KIVA, STAR-CD... so i have to do it in FLUENT... anyways i am trying the simulation in 2d only so not much complicated as such. my question is:- will the chemical reaction continue all over the combustion chamber even if i give a small volume of high temperature region around spark plug? if yes then how do i decide the time for reactions to complete. one final question :- do you know how to simuilate only the chemical reaction in fluent at varving pressure and temperature?

your adivce/ suggestion will be of great help

thanks santosh
