Seeding the Flow - Tracer gases?
 
Hello,

Does anybody know how to seed airflow in fluent models? I am looking at steady-state airflow inside a livestock trailer. I want to look at ventilation rates within the trailer but volume flow rates are not adequate.

They do not allow for air exchanges. So I want to seed the airflow and look at how long it takes for these 'seeds' to exit the trailer. Obviously my model is steady state but if I could do some kind of analysis in fluent maybe I can calculate a residence time.

Since the air velocity in the trailer is low in places, it will take more time for tracer gases/seeds to exit the trailer. Does anybody have any ideas?

Also, I am modeling humidity in fluent using the species transport model. Having set up sensible boundary conditions I get relative humidities of 1000's of % when I post process - this should be no more than 100%! Any ideas on what is wrong?

Hi Carlos,

You have an already implemented option to calculate the residence time: the DPM model. Just create an injection of inert massless particles from the inlet, run the simulation to convergence (in steady solver) and calculate particle residence time, option available in DPM panel, if I remember correctly.

About humidity levels, I have no answer for you, I never encountered this problem.
