laminar flamelets, grid resolution?

Default laminar flamelets, grid resolution?

Hello, I am new to the area of combustion modelling and am trying to use the laminar flamelet model in Fluent to a perform an LES simulation of a jet fire. I am currently trying to get an understanding of what the flamelet model physically represents. My question is regarding flamelet resolution in Fluent. Is each flamelet defined on one cell only? Or is the flamelet defined over several cells?

I know this may be a very obvious question but I am trying to get a physical idea of what "length" each flamelet is.

The reason I ask is I am trying to determine where the flame front it defined in a laminar flamelet model and how sensitive the laminar flamelet model is to grid resolution.

Any help on this at all would be very much appreciated.

Sile, Non-premixed flamelets do not have a length - the equations are transformed to misture fraction space, and solved for the state functions phi(f), where phi = species mass fractions and temp.

Dear CG, Many thanks for your reply. I am aware that the flamelets are solved in mixture fraction space but I was unsure how/if this is influenced by grid resolution, i.e. resolution of the mixture fraction. I see I need to read much more on the topic. Thanks again, Sile
