Default DPM - Droplet Shrinkage

Dear all,

I am using a DPM model with evaporating droplets. What I am trying to do is to incorporate shrinkage of the droplets as it undergo evaporation. The droplet diameter will be a function of the %volatile remaining in the droplet.

any idea how we can incorporate this? I thought of using UDF but not sure which one to use.

If you know how, please advise. Thank you in advance.

Cheers, Woo

Fluent has this capability as an option in DPM. It has been several years since I did this type analysis with Fluent, so I refer you to the DPM documentation (as I do not remember all the specifics, but they are documented). You will want to use the DPM modeling which interacts the droplet with the CFD solution flow field. Also, I can let you know, the results obtained for a fuel droplet evalopating and reacting in a combustion process seemed reasonable and relatively consistent with experimental findings and correlations used by turbine engine manufacturers, who have liquid flues injected into combustors. Also, water droplet tracking (not evalpration driven, but spplicable to DPM particle tracking capability) was compared to NASA testing of jet engine nacelles. This showed good comparison of particle tracking for different size particles, compared to testing.

(P.S. Please specify a lower incremental step size from the Fluent default value for DPM analysis. The accuracy of the particle tracking will typically improve greatly with a smaller step size. Fluents default step size is often too large.)

Thank you Glen,

Will take note tof using a smaller size step for the DPM model. Let me check out on the FLUENT documentation then on the shrinkage.

Cheers, WOo
