T-Grid is used for Tetrahydral/Prismatic mesh generation. You dont need to have solid geometery for a volume mesh in T-Grid bounded surfaces would do.

tgrid works on faceted geometry and allows grid manipulation on a more cellular level. It also has a surface wrapper, hex to boundaries, cavity remeshing etc Also you can mesh in 64 bit allowing up to about 40-60 million cells whereas Gambit can only produce about 8-10m maximum.
