Symmetry B.C. Not Working?
Dear All,
The physical flow/geometry is symmetric and I don't have any problem to set up the symmetry BCs and run my case. However, when I check the result, the distribution (P & T) is not correct: For example, the "whole" distribution should be a "bell" shape. I used the symmetry condition to obtain one "half" bell, but mirroring the "half" bells gives a bell with a "dent" in the center. I tried different cases and it does not look like the problem of meshing. Please help if you experienced similar issues. Many thanks. xc |
Re: Symmetry B.C. Not Working?
Hello there,
I had the same problem and i change my geometry so the plane or axis of symmetry lies on the x-axis and i set the B.C. from symmetry to axis. This worked for me. |
Re: Symmetry B.C. Not Working?
Hello Leverkin,
Thank you very much for your inputs. Did you have a chance to ask for Fluent Technical Support why it happens? You are smart to change the symmetry to axis and make it work. However, what should we do if we have more than one symmetric BC, for example, 1/4 the whole domain? I just cannot believe Fluent fails for such a common CFD issue. Thank you again for your help. Have a nice day. xc |
Re: Symmetry B.C. Not Working?
Hello there,
to tell you the truth i have not come up with such a proble again. Try to set your BC from "symmetry" to "wall" with zero fluxes for all your values (just us symmetry works). Maybe this will lead you in the solution you seak. Have a nice day. |
Re: Symmetry B.C. Not Working?
Hello Leverkin,
Thank you for your response. I tried the "slip" wall. Nothing is improved. Sad. Welcome any inputs. Thanks. xc |
Re: Symmetry B.C. Not Working?
Is it 2D OR 3D case?

Re: Symmetry B.C. Not Working?
3D
