Gambit HEX core method gives unwanted 2D region

Hi there,

I meshed one conical volume with Hexa-core method and it gave me a very GOOD quality HEX dominated mesh with few layers of pyramids and prisms around hexa.

But When I save the mesh in ANSYS format to import in CFX-11, I see that mesh contains a 2D primitive region right where pyramids start around the region of HEX elements. But I did not define or create this region in Gambit. I do not want to have this 2D region created at all because this gives me problem in CFX-11(It would fall under wall category).

1) I do not understand how come this 2D region exists. Any idea? Is it a problem with HEX-core scheme?

2)Is there any way out to get rid of this region?

3) Will saving the mesh in some other format work?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help !

Best Regards, KK
